A great signing day pickup in Sean Parker. The guy is going to make the secondary better from day one. Sarkisian was in it to the very end for one guy that I really would've loved to see in Purple and Gold -- Josh Shirley. He ended up picking UCLA. The ricker picked up three huge recruits today. If (and that's a 48 font "if") neuhiesal has actually learned from his mistakes, and can actually field a disciplined, physical team, the Bruins are going to be a force as long as he's there. He can definitely recruit. The Dawgs signed a solid, if not spectacular, class. Great lines. Speed on defense. Hitters. Athletes. Guys that can fill needs on special teams immediately, and in some cases, on offense and defense. I can't wait to see if Montana is the real deal this spring. I think this is a class that would make Don James proud. I'm not sure I could've said that in the last near-decade. A year ago, did anybody really think Sarkisian would've been able to ink a class like this? I'm not sure I did. It exceeds most reasonable expectations. I'm giving it an A-. I'd give it an A if there was a good corner; that's the only real lack of impact that I can see. 2011 is a really deep year in the state of Washington. Get crackin', coach. No rest for the weary. Congrats to you and your staff. |

Like I was telling Kdog on the other thread, this class reminds me of the old days. Starting up front with the line and getting a top-notch safety. There should be a big impact from this class, if not this fall, the following for sure. I agree with you SD, I wanna see if Montana is just a famous name or a real football player. |

Day one, Sundodger? Really? Come on, dude, be realistic. Okay, I mostly agree that the class may not quite reach "spectacular." It's effect on the program may be more profound than a spectacular class, though, since it re-establishes the UW as a major recruiter on the West Coast. Plenty good enough to beat Oregon with. And Arizona. I like the big, tall receivers, I like the linemen (third rated OL class in the country according to Scout). I'd like to see a CB or two, but I think Sundodger's made the point that some of those RBs and WRs may find themselves running backwards. It sounds silly to say I expected this, but I did. I think Sarkisian has this kind of ability and I think the UW is this kind of football program. I won't say I expected number nine overall, but I'm less surprised by nine than I would have been by twenty nine. Wouldn't you agree? What odds would you give on the receiver from Skyview? I say there's a 65% percent chance he becomes a Dawg. |

I say there's a 65 percent chance that you are a complete dipshit, Djohnson. And a 100 percent chance you're partially retarded. People, take that into consideration when you read any posts by this partial retard. |

I'm being completely realistic. Parker is better than walker (bigger, faster, stronger) and that right there improves depth. Watch some of his videos. He's a hitter. CJ Wallace with better speed and coverage insticts. As good as Glenn looked before getting hurt, the fact is that we haven't seen good safety play at the UW for many, many years. I wonder if you've forgotten what it actually looks like.... Parker will have the biggest impact on the defense in year one of any of the recruits other than maybe Potoa'e. He might also be a returner, he has the speed and skill to play corner, etc. You know, I'll have to amend my statement and say that unequivocally, Parker makes the secondary better from day one. I wonder if Montana is actually 6-3. If he is, that's fantastic. A late bloomer, just like his dad. Ultimately, I expected this too. Just not this year. |

Who is this guy from Skyview Djohnson? I heard there was a big guy from SKYLINE but not skyview. Its been since Akbar/Curtis Williams since we had good safety play, Tony Parish since we had great safety play. Having a great safety makes life so easy. It allows you to blitz either him, or blitz someone else knowing he will make plays. A great safety can come up and help you stop the run making it seem like you have extra linebacker but also a guy who is a centerfielder and allows nothing deep and takes some picks to the house. Look at the 90's when we had Tommy Smith, Palkoa(butched his spelling), Milloy and then Parish. Montana is nice and all but I'm excited about a great line. Don James teams were always winners but not necesarily always had good QB play(even though they all eventually made NFL). I don't think any of his QB's had great numbers on paper they just played smart and we won games. Having great line play makes life easy it means you can run the ball. It means you won't lose games to Notre Dame anymore because that game was purely on the line. I wouldn't be surprised if that safety is starting before the year is over. I also wouldn't be surprised if Koehler or another O-lineman is replacing a 3 year starter before the year is over too. I like that this coaching staff isn't afraid to bench 2-3 year starters for youth. Richardson was a 2 and a half year starter got benched for Long. Goodwin goes from #1 receiver to #4. Gage and Tui started then only saw time in blowouts even Ossai was moved. I liked that about this coaching staff. Glenn and Wells were the only safeties who looked good last year and it was really unfortunete that they played zero games together. Walker is terrible and Nate Williams I'm starting to think the same. We will have DB's in this class make no mistake about it. Remember C.J. Wallace was first team all pac-10 safety but he came here as a running back. |

Another underrated recruit that isn't bringing brought up is Fogerson. Sarkisian said Fogerson should add "an element of maybe something we didn't have this year is the athleticism from the fullback position, the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield and run.'' I expected Homer to be used more but he wasn't athletic enough. Look at how USC used Haveli the last couple of years or even Kirtman. Its been how long since we've had a fullback who was part of our offense? Coniff? Its good to see we are going back to Husky football with some flare of todays growing style of football that we still have stud receivers but now we are starting to get good line, good TE's, good Fullback, safety. Neuheisal brought some of the best passing attacks we'll ever see but our defenses were soft, the line was crap and up until Middleton we hadn't had a productive TE since Ware in 2002 and the fullback was stopped being used all together. Jake Locker will help the program going forward but unfortunetly for him he will only taste success for one year because his previous coaching staff failed him and his team. We haven't wasted a talent like this since Chris Chandler who Don James says is the one player he has the most regret about becuase he didn't surround him with more talent. |

Yeah, Sundodger, I'm just giving you %#*$ about Parker. I'll be pretty surprised if he doesn't start from day one. I disagree with Kdog about Nate Williams -- he's been pretty good. Honestly, I don't know if safety's really been the most glaring flaw on defense. It's one of many. Worse than corner? Worse than DL? I don't know, maybe. The whole thing has been so bad lately that it's pretty tough to pick one weak spot. |

I sure did watch them. And the UCLA game, too. What's your point? Do you think I'm saying the safeties have not been bad sometimes? I'm not. Let's take the ASU game as an example. Obviously, the safeties weren't home on that play. But I also noticed the quarterback wasn't on his back. And I also noticed BOTH outside receivers got completely free releases because our corners weren't reliable enough to play bump-and-run. There's plenty of blame to go around. It's naive to drop it all at the feet of the safeties just because they were the LAST ones to blow it. |

The good news about the db/safety issue: The players are young. Some were very good. The LB's were the only strong point although one DE did his job. Maybe Savannah will come back. |

I don't think Williams is bad, but he's not a guy that you're going to mention in the "storied tradition of UW safties." Maybe it's because the teams he's been on are so bad. I don't think that's it entirely, though. He's the best of a mediocre-to-poor group. Safety is probably the easiest position on the defense to fill. It doesn't require superior size, or strength, or blazing speed. Everything happens in front of a safety during a play. That being said, good safties make everyone else on the defense look better. Just like good tackles, or corners, or linebackers do. The Dawgs need upgrades at every position on defense. This class addresses most of them. |

On either the go ahead TD at the end of the game or game winning TD in overtime I forgot Nate Williams was completely lost. First of all in the endzone having the guy get position on you and being in front of you is terrible. It doesn't matter if you are behind him to tackle him because its still a TD in the endzone you need to front him. The ASU game was just a terrible breakdown by Williams and the coaches and writers who cover the team and sure as hell know way more than dipshit Johnson were pretty harsh on Williams. I think there is a reason why Williams a couple of different times during the year. Its not like he is getting benched for Lawyer Milloy. The safety play in the 90's was very strong with Smith, Palkoa, Milloy and Parish then in 2000 our Rosebowl year it was strong again with Akbar and Williams. We haven't had that in a while. Look at the NFL what a great safety can do with Palomolou, Bob Sanders and Ed Reed how those defenses are with them and how shitty they are without them. |

Sundodger, can you send a candy-gram or something over to my house? I'm feeling bad ever since Kdog told me I'm a "dipshit." Lord knows he's the arbiter of such things. I'm just really, really down about the whole damn situation. I agree about Nate the Great, by the way. My point isn't that he's the best safety I've ever seen. My point is only that he's not the reason our defense has been bad. Not the only reason, anyway. Maybe somebody can explain that to Kdog -- I certainly can't. |

Another reason to be impressed, comparing the 2008 class (also very highly rated) with this one: In 2008: six of eight four- or five-star recruits, and 11 of 21 three-and-above-star recruits were from Washington. This year, the numbers are three of nine and and eight of 25, respectively. In other words, Coach Sarkisian put together a great class even though the state wasn't particularly up. And the 2008 class was a gift. |
